The high conductivity of this material promotes cool running and the light but robust design ensures efficient operation over extended periods. Resistance to wear ring grooves, skirt, and gudgeon pin hole is greatly increased. To ensure dimensional stability in service, all alloy piston castings are correctly heat treated and aged. They find application for accurately deciding the bore size, compression ratio, piston pin size, valve pocket depth, ring groove widths and pin location in order to work with a comprehensive range of crankshaft stroke and connecting rod lengths.
